General Research Description
Our goal is to model mixing so that computational approaches can make experimental measurements unnecessary. Our view must be well based in fundamentals, but at the same time be clearly directed to solving real world engineering problems. Our work is on the complex 'standard' impeller-mixing vessel.

Current Projects

The current work
is to obtain a
picture of the
process. This
involves taking
stereoscopic
films in a frame
of reference
that rotates
with the mixer.
The second step
will be to
obtain
3-dimensional,
time resolved
and full field,
velocity vector
measurements of
the flow. This
mixing system is
key to obtaining
effective
chemical
reactions and
the reduction of
by products in
complex
reactions that
can be
detrimental to
the environment. |

Undergraduate Contributions
Future Undergraduate Projects
Funding is not currently available; thus research positions are for course credit or volunteer only. Brodkey will take on honors research thesis students as well as non-thesis students.
Undergraduate Qualifications
Completion of ChBE 420/520 would be helpful; but not required
