“Using Nanotechnology for Biophysics in Neuroscience”
Biology at any length scale depends on physical forces, from the fracture of bones down to cell motility and protein folding. This fundamental relationship between biology and force has given rise to the field of biophysics. The nanotechnology research team of Dr. Atom Sarkar studies molecular and cellular biophysics in the context of neuroscience. We use atomic force microscopy (AFM) to study single molecule mechanics by force spectroscopy, and our investigations shed light on neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and tumors of the brain.
