Yang Zhao did his undergraduate and master's work at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China and received his Ph.D. from Heroit-Watt University in Edinburgh, United Kingdom in 1992. He has been at Ohio State since 1993. His research interests are in the areas of optical diagnostics and image processing techniques for studying fluid flows and involves development and utilization of full-field, nonintrusive measurements of flow fields. His work on the development of a 3-D laser scanning system will be applied to study of very complex flow phenomena. His current research effort centers upon the application of laser-based imaging techniques to a number of important chemical engineering problems. Specific research projects include chemical mixing processes and polymer void formation/removal in composite structures. The former study is aimed at means to enhance mixing so as to minimize pollution and the latter attempts to elucidate the basic mechanism of polymer void formation/removal.
